MAJ Robert Wendell Wierman

Born 14OCT1915 in Topeka, KS. Bob was killed in a training accident while piloting a P-39 on 29SEPT1943. He was the commanding officer of the 118th during its east coast maneuvers as they prepeared for overseas duty. Don Mason, an enlisted man with the 118th, credits MAJ Wierman with forging a loosley organized squadron into a cohesive and coordinated unit and noted that the death was a great loss to the squadron as well as the United States Army Air Force. His wife, the former Frances Bass, and a daughter survived him.
